| Though massively multiplayer online role-playing games have been around for years, it has taken this long for the genre's breakthrough hit to finally emerge. Here is the online role-playing game you should play, no matter who you are. This is because World of Warcraft brings out all the best aspects of this style of gaming, if not many of the best aspects of gaming in general. It also features many of the specific characteristics that have made Blizzard Entertainment's previous games so entertaining, memorable, long-lasting, and successful. Of course, the company's past track record did not guarantee that World of Warcraft could have turned out this well. Such high quality simply cannot be expected, nor should it be missed. |
Counter-Strike is one of the most unusual PC game releases in months. The hugely popular mod for Valve Software's Half-Life has been available for free download for well over a year, and you can still download it for free off the Internet now that it's been through beta testing and has reached version 1.0. And if you don't have the exceptional Half-Life, the new retail edition of Counter-Strike is a chance to get a stand-alone version of this outstanding multiplayer mod. The retail package also includes stand-alone versions of other multiplayer mods and game modes that normally require Half-Life, the best of which are also available free off the Internet: Team Fortress Classic, Opposing Force Multiplayer, Firearms, Redemption, Ricochet, and Wanted. Counter-Strike itself is a superb game that fully deserves top billing in this release. |

| The sign of a truly great expansion pack is when, having played it, you realize you could never go back to the original game. After all, truly great expansion packs don't just add new content--they add real depth, and fundamentally make the core game better. Blizzard Entertainment knows the drill when it comes to delivering these sorts of products. Its follow-up releases for 1998's Starcraft and 2000's Diablo II were so effective and so good that many, many people are still playing both of those games today, all these years later. Given Blizzard's track record with expansion packs, it's understandable that fans of the company's games would have very high expectations for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Last year's real-time strategy game was a very tough act to follow on any number of levels, and yet Blizzard has delivered a terrific, full-featured expansion for Warcraft III that makes an already outstanding game significantly more so. |
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos needs little introduction, and neither does Blizzard, the company that created it. The worldwide July 3 release of Warcraft III, which shipped about 5 million copies in its first run, seems like a suitably momentous occasion, given that the game itself is both so highly anticipated and has been such a long time in the making. Considering that many have long since preordered the game and that the remaining copies are likely to fly off the shelves, giving a critique of Warcraft III almost seems like a moot point. It's like trying to convince someone whether or not to go see a movie like Star Wars: Episode II. Fortunately for those who intend to play it no matter what anyone says, they'll find their time with Warcraft III to be very well spent. Sure, Warcraft III isn't a revolutionary departure from the conventions of real-time strategy gaming. But it's as good of an offering in the genre as there's ever been. |

Conquer distinguishes itself from the MMORPG pack in some old-school ways that, because of their retro feeling, make the game seem fresh--if not innovative. Instead of going for detailed 3D rendering, Conquer's anime style is more cartoony and rounded, and very well-suited to the pseudo-mystical ancient Chinese milieu in which it's set.You can play one of several characters: Warrior, Archer, magically-inclined Taoist, or a Trojan. The anachronistically-named Trojan is the strongest character, whereas the Archer is the fastest, the Warrior the most versatile, and the Taoist the most magically inclined. Advanced Taoists, whom we mistakenly thought were meant to be the peaceful, contemplative sort, can become Water or Fire Taoists. As in other MMORPGs, when you complete quests, kill creatures, and pick up coins, you level up and become stronger.Conquer has a more unique backstory, if only because it's not lifted from European medieval fantasy; hobbit-hunters should look elsewhere. The install file is smaller than most free MMORPGs, and the smaller footprint doesn't eat up quite as much of your system resources. Online documentation is better, too, and most newbie questions can be answered by perusing their site. All in all, Conquer is a fun game with a distinctive style, and is absolutely worth checking out.

While standing around the Aion portion of the NCsoft booth I continually heard the same expression uttered by almost every person who took their first glance at Aion; WOW! I think this entire review can pretty much be summed up in that single word. Pronounced ion, this is NCsofts heavy hitter in the making. A joint effort between a South Korean and U.S. team this title was completely unexpected. If you came here from GameAmp’s E3 Awards page you would know this was the Best Graphics winner; hands down. Nothing I have ever seen holds a candle to Aion’s graphics. Visually stunning, highly addictive, and we only got to see a fraction of the game. The story takes us to an Angels vs Demons theme. Only the Angel's side was playable and viewable but that’s all you need to see to know this title is going to be huge. While still a long ways off till completion and with no demons to be seen at E3 I can safely say this will be a very popular title. Just the graphics alone in this game will suck in players and keep them leveling just to see what’s next. In parts of the game you will even be able to gain wings and fly to new areas. GameAmp will be keeping a very close eye on Aion’s progress and we will be launching our own site very soon. Keep checking back for more information as it becomes available
